Further investment in intelligent wound care

5th July 2007

Ipso Ventures plc, the IP commercialisation specialist, announces that its wholly owned subsidiary, Ipso Management Limited ("Ipso"), has made a further investment of ú270,000 in its spin out company Intelligent Wound Care Limited ("IWC"). IWC was established in May 2006 to capitalise on the work of Dr Danny O'Hare, a Reader in Sensor Research in the Department of Bioengineering at Imperial College London.

IWC is developing devices to measure various physiological parameters which will allow a clinician to make an informed assessment of the functional status of tissues and organs. The devices will assist in early identification and tracking of pathological conditions both during clinical / surgical procedures and following surgery.

IWC is currently finalising the manufacture of a number of prototypes prior to placement of those devices with research establishments for further testing. These research trials are expected to take around six months and the results should be available by the end of 2007.

Simon Hunt, Chairman of Ipso Ventures plc, said: "Danny has made great strides with his technology and we are delighted to provide further support to progress the development of the devices. We believe that the research trials IWC are about to commence will show that its device can improve patient outcomes post surgery."

Dr Danny O'Hare said: "I am excited at the prospect of translating our research into the marketplace. The investment and support from Ipso will enable wider application of our techniques and will ensure that these devices can be evaluated in a clinical setting. Our clinical collaborators are confident that our sensors will help in the management of their patients."

Including this investment Ipso has invested a total of ú540,000 in IWC. Ipso's partner in IWC is Imperial Innovations plc, which has an option to acquire 24.9 per cent. of the company at nominal value.
